I’ve just finished reviewing my friend’s e-book (see my post May 12) and returned her product questionnaire completed. One of the suggestions I made to my friend was that she changed her e-book from a Microsoft Word document to a PDF.
Just about all e-books are distributed in the Portable Document Format. This makes them non-dependent on the original software they were written on, meaning that the reader does not need to own the same software program as the writer in order to read the document. PDFs are read using Adobe Reader, which is free software.
Not all word-processing programs are capable of saving their documents as a pdf document. I use a free PDF creator, doPDF, to convert my documents to PDFs. It can convert to PDF any files from any application that supports printing.
It’s very easy to use, click “Print” from an application (like Word for example), choose “doPDF” instead of your regular printer and the PDF file will be created. The following video shows you how easy it is to use:
